The Way of Holiness Church

Arlis and J. B. Murrell

Our church was organized in 1960,  as Arlis and J.B. Murrell were conducting prayer meetings in their home.  Feeling the need for a building, they rented a store front at 817 Johnston Street, Akron, Ohio.  This became the first home of  "The Way of Holiness Church."  In May, 1961 they started with twenty-five members.  Soon they grew out of the store front and decided to buy a building for a permanent location.  They purchased a building at 641 South Arlington Street, Akron, Ohio as their new location for the next 14 years.  The church grew in numbers and fellowship with many other churches in that area.  During this time, the Murrells helped establish other churches in Canton, Ohio and Pikeville, Kentucky, and assisted in street meetings.

In 1978 Brother and Sister Murrell were led by the Lord to open a church in Buckhannon, West Virginia.  They purchased the old school house on Turkey Run Road.  They remodeled it and added on several additions as the church grew.

In 1984 their son, Jerry J. Murrell, accepted his calling from God, and was anointed Pastor of the church.  Pastor Jerry and the people had a vision of a new building along a highway and in 1990 the building fund was started, and now, thanks to much prayer and hard work, God has blessed us with the present church on Rt. 33, Buckhannon, WV.
